New Car!

Time to say goodbye to this one!

Final Curtain

So that's it then
No more 230TE.
The final distance that this car travelled was 247038 which exceeds the distance to the moon by 8181 miles.
I don't know if that is the end of the road for this particular car but I sort of hope not.
Although there are lots of faults with this car there are also lots of really nice points to. For instance I don't suppose the comfort of the seats can be bettered. The leather was only just beginning to be worn in!

So whatever happens I hope it goes to a good home.

.....and I'll continue this Blog about my new car.

So actually I did it a while ago!!

The Merc has Landed!!

The Moon moves around the Earth at an average distance of 384,403 km (238,857 mi), and at an average speed of 3,700 km/hr (about 2,300 mph). It completes one revolution in an elliptical orbit about the Earth in 27 days, 7 hr, 43 min, 11.5 sec according to sidereal time (that is, by reference to the stars).

Congratulations are in order!!

Who is this Mechanic Anyway!!

I hate to say it but I am looking for another car. I took my car to John Griffiths as previously reported and he found the following:

1. Timing Chain Noisy Tensioner
2. Steering Idler Worn
3. Anti Roll Bar Bushes Worn
4. Wrong Shock Absorber Spring fitted to front Driver's Side wheel.
5. Near side front tyre needs replacing (I knew)
6. Engine Mounts were worn
7. Head Gasket leaking oil
8. Middle section of exhaust pipe close to failure
9. Rear lower arm bushes need replacing
10. Rear differential bushes need replacing
11. Front wheel bearing rumbling
12. Rear Brake shoes need replacing!

So that was about it!

Well we are close to the moon but we may crash and burn yet. It remains to be seen.

Time to add some comments!!

Is there anyone out there? Let's have some comments. I'd be particularly pleased to getting feedback from other W124 owners. These cars fall in the gap between the old collectors models and the more expensive (but maybe less well made) newer models. As far as I can see they can't be beat and there are plenty of owners out there.

Let's have some comment and maybe we can get a new bulletin board going......

Caversham Garage

My car has a couple of funny noises.

Firstly, there is a rubbing noise coming from somewhere. It might be the front offside wheel but I’m not really sure. It has been doing this for quite some time but I have decided that it is now time to get it looked at.

Secondly, I get this rumbling noise when I creep forwards and especially if I turn sharply right.

So…..I have decided to have them looked at it (if you can look at a noise!) and to that end I found a local garage in Caversham that I have not seen before. It is called John Griffiths and they specialise in Mercedes. I have been looking for a second tier MB workshop for quite a while and this one might just be the one. It is crammed into a small workshop in one of the narrow and busy streets in Caversham. There is hardly enough room to swing a cat but it seems to have all that is required. I think they have 2 work bays and a separate body shop somewhere else. They also seem willing to get involved; one of the blokes came for a short run for a listen…but it was inconclusive.
Anyhow I have booked it in for a detailed investigation in a couple of weeks and we shall see what they come up with.
They will also be looking round the bodywork and will maybe quote for any renovations they can do.
I hope none of this prevents my lunar landing later this year…….

So Little Time....so much to do....

At least that is my excuse. I see from looking back that I have written nothing since October.

Since then I have travelled to and fro to work and back and made several journeys up to the frozen north. Christmas has come and gone and now I can settle back to a form of normality.

My present mileage is.... 245534

January Mileage

Take a look at these by the way; not cars, but vehicles all the same.
